Why the first groom decides everything
Dogs learn whether grooming is safe from their first session. A rushed first groom, a hot dryer or a forced nail clip teaches a puppy to dread the grooming table, and that fear follows them for years. The reverse is also true: a calm, positive first groom makes every future session easier.
That is why puppy sessions run slower than adult ones. We introduce the tub without water first, run the dryer from a distance before moving closer, and stop the moment the puppy needs a break. You are welcome to stay close through all of it.
What your puppy can handle at each age
Once vaccinations are complete, usually around 10 to 12 weeks, puppies can visit safely. Between 10 and 16 weeks the goal is familiarity: short visits, gentle handling, treats. From 4 to 6 months we introduce the full routine, including the dryer and nail file.
By 6 months most puppies handle a complete session comfortably. Breeds that need regular haircuts, like Shih Tzus and Poodles, should start around 12 weeks so the clipper sound becomes normal early.
What puppy-safe products actually mean
Puppy skin is thinner and more sensitive than an adult dog's. We use tear-free, pH-balanced puppy formulas, water that is warm rather than hot, and dryer settings that are low and quiet. Ear checks are visual first, and nails are filed rather than clipped where the puppy is nervous.
Medicated shampoos are never used on puppies without your approval and a reason. If your puppy has a skin condition, we will ask you to consult the vet first.
